Terrible mobster Damien Hirst at Art shares a glimpse of a new coffee artwork before planning to burn thousands of paintings for a new project
Could this be the most expensive cup of coffee ever?
Damien Hirst, the world’s richest artist, worth £315m, has shared a glimpse of a new artwork, a cappuccino that depicts in milk foam the 57-year-old and his ex-girlfriend ballerina Sophie Cannell, 28.
According to Richard Eden of the Daily Mail, Hearst will burn thousands of his famous point paintings next month in a project focused on art as currency.
Buyers who have spent £1,600 on physical art have been given the option to see their investment burnt in exchange for a digital version known as a non-foldable token, (NFT).
NFT is a unique computer file encoded with the artist’s signature, which serves as a digital certificate of ownership and authenticity.
Perhaps they needed something stronger than coffee after making that decision.

Most of the NFTs are part of the Ethereum blockchain – Ethereum is a cryptocurrency and one coin is worth 1,285.04 GBP or 1,628.43 USD.

What are NFTs?
What is NFT?
A Non-Fungible Token (NFT) is a unique digital token that is encrypted with the artist’s signature, verifies its ownership and authenticity, and is permanently associated with the piece.
How do they look?
Most NFTs include some nice digital artwork, such as photos, videos, GIFs, and music. In theory, anything digital can be converted to NFT.
Where do you buy them?
Currently, NFTs are commonly sold in so-called ‘drops’, timed sales online through blockchain-backed marketplaces such as Nifty Gateway, Opensea and Rarible.
Why would I want to own one?
There are a bunch of reasons why someone might want to buy an NFT. For some, the reason may be sentimental value, because NFTs are seen as collectors’ items. For others, it is seen as an investment opportunity similar to cryptocurrencies, because the value can increase.
When were NFTs created?
Writer and podcaster Andrew Steinwald Tracing the origins of NFT back to 2012, with the creation of the color cryptocurrency. But NFTs didn’t move into the mainstream until five years later, when the blockchain game CryptoKitties began selling virtual cats in 2017.
