We’re keeping track of the remaining undefeated teams in DI men’s and women’s college basketball this season. For the women, UConn is the most recent team to complete an undefeated season by snapping the net, going 38-0 in 2015-16. Men’s basketball hasn’t had a perfect season since 1975-76 with a 32-0 Indiana finish, though Gonzaga was one win away from a perfect season in 2020-21.

The Boilermakers started the season unranked but climbed to the top of the polls behind big gains and a Big star in Zack Eddy. As of December 21, the 7-foot-4 center is averaging 22.6 points on just 13.5 shooting per game while averaging 13.9 rebounds and 2.2 blocks. In an 89-70 win over Minnesota, Eddy had 31 points and 22 boards. Guard Fletcher Loyer is second with 12.8 points per game.

The Lobos closed out non-conference play with guidance from Prairie View A&M and started the season 12-0 for the fifth time in program history (first since 2012-13). Jamal Mashburn, Jr. scored in double figures in all 13 games, including 23 against San Francisco in a hard fought 67-64 win. The Lobos scored the last eight points of the game to remain undefeated.

Unbeaten women’s college basketball teams in 2022-23
- South Carolina (13-0, 1-0 SEC)
Toughest Tests remaining (on paper): against Arkansas (Sunday, January 22); at UConn (Sunday, February 5); vs. LSU (Sunday, Feb. 12)
South Carolina cruised through the early part of their schedule, only having trouble against Stanford and UCLA, but still leading. The defending champions remained in perfect form through December 30 last season in the only pre-conference regular season losing tournament. The Gamecocks’ biggest test may come against last year’s runner-up UConn. Zia Cooke leads South Carolina in scoring with 14.1 points as of December 29. Aliyah Boston follows with an 11.9 per game to pair with 9.2 rebounds.
Toughest Tests Remaining (On Paper): vs. Arkansas (Thursday, Jan. 19); In South Carolina (Sunday, February 12)
LSU is the other undefeated team in the SEC. The biggest test will come against so far undisputed first team South Carolina. The Tigers lead the nation with 94.8 points per game. Angel Reese averaged 24.6 points (sixth in the country) and 14.6 rebounds, leading LSU in both categories.

There is only one undefeated team in the Big East, and it’s not UConn. St. John’s remained perfect through 13 games after defeating Georgetown on December 31. The Red Storm, which cracked the AP top 25 for the first time since 2015, made waves after defeating then-conference foe No. 13 Creighton 66-62. Jayla Everett leads the team in points with 17.1 per game as of December 31.

Ohio State leads the Big Ten ahead of four other ranked teams. The Buckeyes came out hitting hard and then no. 5 Tennessee in their first game and climbed the ranks from 14th to 3rd. Taylor Michaels leads the Buckeyes in scoring with 17.9 points as of December 28. And against Rutgers, Mikesell scored a season-high 30 points on six 3-pointers.

Utah is the only undefeated team in competitive Pac-12 play. Like the Big Ten, there are currently five ranked teams including Stanford, which was ranked No. 2 in the country all season. Alyssa Bailey, among the top 20 in point scoring nationally, leads the Utes in points (20.1) and rebounds (6.1) as of December 22.
