WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — Tage Thompson scored a goal and an assist, and the Buffalo Sabers beat the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 Thursday night for their fifth straight win.
Thompson scored his 34th goal of the season and extended his point streak to six games. He has three goals and seven assists through the streak.
Owen Bauer and Victor Olofsson also scored for the Sabers, Jeff Skinner and Rasmus Dahlen each had a pair of assists, and Eric Comrie stopped 19 shots.
Nate Schmidt and Pierre-Luc Dubois scored for Winnipeg, and Conor Helbwick made 33 saves.
“We didn’t get out of our neighborhood well tonight,” said Schmidt. “I don’t think we’ve had a lot of times where we’ve had the puck on the stick and we’ve been playing to get out of the area. I’ve had a lot of times where we weren’t sure about it.”
Thompson made it 2-0 in the second on a one-out Alex Tosh touchdown pass. Toch has seven consecutive points, the second longest of his career.
“He’s always ready to pinch, so when you find him in an open area…he’ll bury it,” Toch said.
Olafsson extended the lead to 3-0 with a powerful goal midway through the third period.
