Morgan State appoints Dr. Hobbs as Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine

Baltimore, MD (January 3, 2023) — The Morgan State University Division of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced the addition of Dr. Sierra Hobbs to the position of Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine, where she will oversee a staff of eight.

“We are very excited to have Dr. Sierra Hobbs join the Morgan State University Department of Athletics leadership team. She will oversee a comprehensive health and wellness program to deliver high-quality care to all of our student-athletes,” said Deputy Athletic Director and Chief of Staff at Morgan State. Women’s Director, Earlis Wagner.

“You will lead a department of eight athletic trainers and serve as the primary contact for the MedStar Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Partnership. I look forward to seeing how Dr. Hope’s leadership will not only transform the student-athlete experience, but also make a positive impact on the growth and development of the sports medicine team.”

Dr. Hobbs comes to Morgan State after serving the past six months as the athletic assistant director of sports medicine at Clark Atlanta University. She also spent time as an athletic trainer at Source Fitness Management, providing sports medicine services at the high school level from February 2022 to July 2022.

“My appointment as Associate Director of Athletics for Sports Medicine at Morgan State University leaves me speechless,” said Dr. Hobbs. “It is an honor and privilege to have this opportunity. I am excited to bring my years of clinical and management experience to the growing Department of Sports Medicine and look forward to its continued growth as we provide excellent patient care to all of our student-athletes.”

From May 2021 to February 2022, Dr. Hobbs spent nine months as Director of Sports Medicine at Alabama State University. While at Alabama, she oversaw all aspects of the university’s sports medicine department, the university’s relationship with Rehab Associates, and was the chief liaison for the physician team.

Prior to joining Alabama State, Dr. Hobbs served as an athletic outreach instructor at Virginia Commonwealth University Health Sports Medicine in Richmond (VA), providing athletic training services to Virginia Union University. While at Virginia Union, Dr. Hobbs covered several sports including football, women’s basketball, track and field, cross country, and softball.

Prior to joining VCU, she was an assistant athletic coach at Fayetteville State University (2018-19), providing coverage of all 12 college sports with a primary focus on football and women’s basketball.

Before heading to Fayetteville State, Dr. Hobbs was the athletic trainer at San Marino High School (California), where he worked primarily with soccer and girls’ soccer.

A native of Long Beach (calf), she earned a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from North Carolina Central in 2010, graduating with honors, before earning a Master of Science degree in Kinesiology – with an emphasis in Sports Medicine and Injury Studies from California, a graduate Long Beach State University 2017 Class of Honors.

In June 2022, Dr. Hobbs received her PhD in Athletic Training with an emphasis in Leadership Education and Orthopedics from AT Still University.
